Nokia Lumia 920: An Inside View

When Samsung took over the top position in mobile phone industry by introducing their smartphone series, Nokia had no option left other than introducing their own smart phones.

To give something different to the customers, Nokia introduced smartphones, all of which used Windows operating system, in November 2011. The first two phones of this series to hit the market were, Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710. These smartphones had Windows 7 as their OS, but now as the latest version of Windows, that is Windows 8, has been launched, Nokia also launched its new Lumia series having Windows 8. These were named as Lumia 920 and Lumia 820.

Lumia 920
Although Nokia Lumia 920 was one of the initial phones to use Windows 8, but now Windows’ favourite has changed to HTC 8X. But still Lumia tends to be one of the top smartphones in the market today. The features that make it a good option for buying are stated below.

Nokia Lumia 920

•    Design
Coming to the appearance, Lumia 920 looks very much like the earlier versions, and many people can mistake a Lumia 920 for a Lumia 800 or 900. The size of this smartphone is slightly bigger when compared to its counterparts, and that is clearly noticeable in its weight.
If you have a habit of holding the 112g Apple phones or the 133g Samsung phones, then this may feel a bit too heavy for you at 185 g.

•    Display
With 4.5 inches display, the screen size is smaller than that of a Samsung or Apple smartphone, but Lumia 920 has an IPS TFT screen, which provides a crisp, bright display offering up an HD resolution of 768x1280. Nokia calls it "PureMotion+ HD”, PureMotion here refers to the fact that the videos are loaded smoothly, without any lag or blur.

•    Storage
Unlike Samsung smartphones, Lumia 920 doesn’t have any option for external memory cards. It comes pre-build with 32GB memory, though it is better as compared to the earlier versions with 16GB internal memory.

•    Wireless Charging
The Lumia 920 requires no external case or cabling for charging, that is why it’s called Wireless Charging. But the wireless charging pad has no internal battery, so you never fully escape the wires. You still have to plug something in. However, the benefit of a charging pad is that you can hide the wires, say behind the computer monitor at your desk, or on a countertop in your home.

•    Camera
The 920 version also has two cameras, one at the back and the other one is front-facing. The back camera is 8MP, autofocus with LED flash, 1080p@30fps video recording. The new feature of this series is Optical Image stabilization with floating lens technology, which claims to give a clear and crisp image. The back-camera is 1.3MP and remains same as the previous models.

•    Connectivity
Lumia 920 supports Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP and EDR, file transfers. Apart from Bluetooth connection, it also supports NFC, which enables users to ‘tap and share’ files quickly without any need to establish connection first and then identifying each other’s devicve.

•    Other Features
Apart from the above stated features, Lumia 920 also has free lifetime voice-guided navigation, and Xbox Live integration and Xbox management, to aid and entertain the users.

Some not so pleasing features of Lumia 920 are given below:
•    No microSD card
•    No FM radio
•    No system-wide file manager
•    No lockscreen shortcuts
•    Non user-replaceable battery

Conclusion
The Nokia Lumia 920 is certainly the best Windows Phone 8 smartphone on the market right now. There, that's one base covered. The Ativ S with its larger screen and more reasonable weight might have a thing or two to say about it, but the Lumia 920 is definitely the most complete package the Microsoft platform offers.

Lumia 920 Vs Apple iPhone5

The Nokia Lumia 920 provides a nice alternative to those, who were disappointed by the modest increase of screen size on the iPhone 5. At 4.5" and with an appropriately higher resolution, the Lumia 920 screen is far better suited to video watching and gaming than the 4" unit of the latest Apple smartphone.
