In an attempt to get a foothold in the Smartphone market, Google has come up with the fourth-generation Nexus-branded Android smartphone, designed and manufactured by LG Electronics.
Though the earlier versions of this series failed to create a thunderstorm effect in the market, Nexus 4 is sure to leave its mark. Launched on November 13, 2012, Nexus 4 is the first smartphone that came with Android 4.2 Operating System. Apart from this, the phone is equipped with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor that gives an amazing speed and performance to it, and coming at a well-planned price of $299, the demand for this smartphone is very high.
Key Features
• 4.7-inch IPS Plus LCD running at 1280×768
Hardware & Design
Featuring a quad-core processor and a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768p display, the Nexus 4 is a steady competitor to Smartphone giants such as Samsung and Apple. Nexus 4 has currently one of the strongest chipsets, Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, which a smartphone can have. Thus regarding speed and performance, users are not going to have any problem.
Since the Nexus 4 is designed and manufactured by LG, it has a striking resemblance to the LG Optimus. At 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm, the LG Nexus 4 is nearly the same size as the Optimus G. unlike the gentle curves of the Galaxy Nexus, the sides of the Nexus 4 are flat, angular, and made of a soft touch material that provides just the right amount of grip. Both the front and the back of the LG Nexus 4 are covered in Gorilla Glass 2, which should ensure enough protection against scratches.
Display
The Nexus 4’s 4.7-inch HD IPS+ LCD display with 1280×768 resolution provides a clear and bright picture. Even though the colors are not as crisp as in the case of an AMOLED display, but given the HD display and a good resolution, one must say that the Nexus 4’s display is awesome.
Performance
With the above stated chipset and a 2GB RAM, Nexus 4 is one of the most responsive handsets in the market today. Even if one performs more than one task at a given time, the phone responds quickly without much delay.
Battery
The battery of Nexus 4 is not as impressive as hoped. With the screen brightness set to 50%, the smartphone could afford a 5.5 hours long run only. This is one of the main drawbacks of Nexus 4 that needs to be worked upon.
Disadvantages
• No microSD card slot, no versions with more storage
• Non user-replaceable battery
• No LTE support
• Camera is less than stellar, no shutter key either
